GST Registrations for Service Tax Registrants to close soon

The last date to register your firm for Good and Services Tax is the end of this month (31st January 2017). In September last year, Pranab Mukherjee had announced GST and all companies that fall under this category are supposed to implement this tax from April 2017.
What is GST?
Goods and Services Tax, abbreviated as GST is an indirect tax reform that aims at removing tax barriers between two states and envisions at creating a single market for all. This tax is a destination based consumption tax, where the taxable event is Supply as against the existing taxable events of sale, manufacture or provision of service.
Are you liable to implement this tax?
If you are an existing taxpayer registered with any of the authorities, then you MUST get yourself registered for this tax –
- Central Excise
- Service Tax
- State sales tax/VAT (except exclusive liquor dealers)
- Entry tax
- Luxury Tax
- Entertainment tax
While the last date to get yourself enrolled for this tax was different for different states, the last date for service Tax registrants is soon approaching – 31st January 2017.
How to register?
You can enroll yourself through the GST online system portal. But, before visiting the GST system portal, you must contact your ward office to get the provisional ID and password for the enrollment.
Once you have the ID and password, you can log in to the online portal, fill the application form and submit it. Once you submit the form, you will get an acknowledgment number, which has to be preserved for any/all future correspondence regarding your enrollment.
Documents required to enroll with GST
Before you begin your enrollment, ensure you have the following documents –
- Provisional ID received from State/ Central Authorities
- Password received from the State/ Central Authorities
- Valid E-mail Address
- Valid Mobile Number
- Bank Account Number
- Bank IFSC
