Orvoz - An Online platform for patient engagement services
8 years ago Shalini BThey say “necessity if the mother of inventionâ€ÂÂ. This quote stands true for most of the entrepreneurs today who are always finding innovative solutions to everyday problems. When you face a problem yourself, you tend to come up with the best and easiest solution.
Same was the case with the founder of Orvoz – Ramesh Mudunuri. About 8 years ago, he was travelling to Tirupati with his family. Unfortunately, in middle of the night his younger daughter complained about breathlessness and that was when Ramesh and his spouse realized that it was an asthma attack. Since they were travelling, they could not get immediate help from doctors. This was an incident that shook him and  he realized that this might be a problem for lot of others.
Orvoz is a startup platform that engages with patients via a care center agent on behalf of the doctors where the care agents talk to the patients on a regular basis. The talk is regarding their health and through the conversation the agents provide the patients the means and tools to inculcate a healthy lifestyle and influence the outcomes in between the doctor visits. All these services are free of cost. In less than 3 months’ of time in research, Ramesh successfully developed a cloud based minimum viable solution which today, takes care of patients for doctor appointments, diagnostics home sample collections, pharmacy delivery and feedback collection of doctor / clinic services, with a care agent team. The startup started servicing their first client (doctors) in March.
Ramesh has held several technical positions from developer to architect on client/server, ERP and recent big data technologies in segments ranging from healthcare, service, manufacturing, education, financial, oil and to natural gas domains before starting up.
“Once I realized the need for such a platform, I had the opportunity to work at one of the big healthcare companies in US as a solution architect, and got curious to find Indian patient mortality rates after attending a healthcare analytics conference in October 2015. After some reading I convinced myself with inputs from family members and friends, the need for Patient engagement service for chronic disease patients, to educate and have human engagement to encourage patients on follow-up visits.†says the proud founder of Orvoz.
The team also engages with patients by providing health education along with appointment waiting times on the television set in the hospital while they wait for their turn to consult the doctor. The results found were astounding with significant increase in patient’s follow-up visits.
They have a mobile app for a Hyderabad based eye institute to provide follow-up center details to a patient by doctor. They have few more doctors to get on board with their service.
Ramesh envisions to be an extended arm to the doctors and engage the patients for betterment of their health. The future of Orvoz includes extending the engagement service which will contain helping patients with in-house nutritionists regarding dietary needs, physical fitness & yoga instructors as per doctor instructions for patients. In future, the team also plans on educating the patients with health tips from doctors. They shall also begin promoting wearable devices to track and monitor patient health as well as educating other healthcare industry services to patients.
“For doctor’s we will generate analytics data which will help them understand patient patterns in terms of effectiveness of a medication, particular medicinal usage, patient turnout which will help them with both their treatment service to patients as well tweak or modify their operational activities for optimal functioning of their facilities.†Says Ramesh while talking further about the future plans of Orvoz.
