Rosha: Revolutionizing Portable Lighting with Cordless Innovation!

Rosha, a New Delhi-based startup, has emerged as a game-changer in the lighting industry with its stylish and technologically advanced cordless lamps. Founded in 2019 by Kanwardeep Singh, Gaurav Tikia, and Shivam Dewan, Rosha introduced India’s first portable rechargeable lamp, which can operate for 8 to 10 hours after just 3 to 4 hours of charging. With over 100 unique designs, the company has recently expanded into solar lamp production, further enhancing its portfolio. Today, Rosha’s innovative lighting solutions illuminate over 5,000 restaurants and lounges and 15,000 homes across India.

The three co-founders have been friends since childhood, having known each other since the age of five. Though they initially joined their respective family businesses, their entrepreneurial spirit led them to explore new opportunities. The idea for Rosha was sparked during a conversation with a Delhi restaurant manager, who revealed that restaurants spend ₹30,000–₹40,000 per month on candles and face issues related to smoke and maintenance. Realizing the potential of a wireless, rechargeable lighting solution, the trio launched Rosha in 2019, focusing on B2B sales in the hospitality sector (HoReCa). While currently not available on any marketplaces, Rosha’s products can be purchased directly from the company’s website, with an average selling price of ₹2,500 per lamp.

Rosha’s innovative designs have garnered admiration from celebrities and industry leaders. Aman Gupta’s mother discovered the brand’s lamps in Goa and placed an order, leading to a direct delivery by one of the founders. Even Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan was so impressed with the lamps that he purchased 15 to 20 units for personal use. These endorsements highlight Rosha’s growing reputation as a luxury lighting brand offering modern, space-enhancing illumination solutions.

Since its inception, Rosha has demonstrated impressive financial growth. Starting with ₹60 lakh in revenue in 2019, the company’s sales increased to ₹1.8 crore the following year, maintaining steady growth. By 2022-23, revenue reached ₹3 crore, followed by a significant jump to ₹8 crore in 2023-24. In the first half of the current year, Rosha has already recorded ₹5 crore in sales, with projections estimating ₹16 crore by year-end. Despite being bootstrapped, Rosha remains highly profitable, operating at a 15% profit margin while paying each founder a monthly salary of ₹2.5 lakh. The business was launched with an initial investment of ₹75 lakh (₹25 lakh from each founder), proving that strategic execution can lead to remarkable success without external funding.

The startup’s appearance on Shark Tank India Season 4 attracted interest from the sharks, who praised the brand’s innovation and design. The founders sought ₹60 lakh for 1% equity, valuing the company at ₹60 crore. While Piyush Bansal and Namita Thapar opted out, Ritesh Agarwal and Anupam Mittal offered ₹60 lakh for 3% equity and a 1.5% royalty until their investment was repaid 1.5 times over. Meanwhile, Aman Gupta proposed ₹60 lakh for 2% equity and a 1% royalty under similar repayment terms. Ultimately, Aman and Ritesh joined forces, closing the deal at ₹60 lakh for 4% equity and a 1.5% royalty until the investment was recovered.

Rosha Shark Tank

Rosha’s journey from a simple idea to a profitable business exemplifies the power of entrepreneurial vision and innovation. By offering a modern, cordless alternative to traditional lighting, the company is transforming how homes and businesses illuminate their spaces. With increasing revenue, strong investor backing, and a commitment to expanding domestic manufacturing, Rosha is poised for even greater success. Its story is a testament to the fact that great businesses are built on identifying everyday problems and creating elegant, practical solutions.
