Well, to find your way around an unfamiliar place, some magic would definitely come in handy unless you have technology by your side. For in today’s world, we rely on our smartphones and the internet to work magic and guide us to places we want to go once we hit a new city or tourist destination. Keeping this in mind, Mojostreet, a Hyderabad-based organisation has come up with a GPS-aided location service which enables you to search and discover all the happening destinations you would like to visit.

Accessible on a web browser as well as on smartphones (iOS, Android, Windows and BlackBerry), you can rely on Mojostreet to point you to locations across a variety of categories such as restaurants, spas, fast food, gyms, tourist spots, hair & beauty salons, clubs, nightlife, bars and more. The app provides directions, recommendations, reviews, contact numbers and pictures for each listing. It also features a Foursquare-esque check in system enabling you to share your favourite places with your friends, review them, publish recommendations and tips. Additionally, by linking the app to your Facebook account, your friends would get to know of places which you have recommended and visited as part of their search results. In case you happen to be chilling out at a location nearby, your friends would be notified of the same.

An unique feature of Mojostreet is the ability to earn virtual currency by checking in. Akin to a game, checking in to a location gets you a certain amount of Mojo $. You can earn more currency by leaving tips and uploading photos of places in addition to checking in. As you pile up Mojo $s, you can redeem them for real world goodies from various outlets. Shortly after its foundation, Mojostreet partnered with a number of retailers and outlets to whom it managed to sell the Mojo $ concept.

The company started its journey three years ago when it managed to secure $350 K in seed funding from multiple sources including Srini Koppolu, the former Managing Director of Microsoft India and J. A Chowdary, former Managing Director of Nvidia, India. Founder and CEO of Mojostreet, Kalyan Manyam envisions the release of Mojostreet in the US and Singapore shortly:

Before Mojostreet, Manyam had founded Indyarocks, a social networking site which quickly secured around six million Indian users.

“As data plans become more affordable in India, location-based services are going to play a crucial role in community-based entertainment and eCommerce”, Manyam said. “And we are very excited to see the ways Mojostreet can influence real world experiences and commerce”.

Going by the response so far, the app has been quite successful in helping users navigate efficiently and providing them a game-like experience while doing so. We will watch out for Mojostreet’s entry into International markets and the impact it has thereafter. Meanwhile if you are feeling like grabbing a bite or unwinding with friends over a few drinks after a hard day’s work, let Mojostreet help you get to popular destinations close to you.
