Food Krafters acquires Hyderabad House

Hyderabad House was the pioneer in QSR segment serving lip smacking biryani and other moghlai delicacies. The chain started in 1998 by Mir Babar Ali and has over 40 outlets across Hyderabad, Dubai and Australia. The organised QSR biryani market is estimated to be worth Rs.2000 crore and is dominated by a few chains.

Khalil Ahmed, a co-founder and former executive director of Shanta Biotech has acquired Hyderabad House for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition is through Food Krafters & Services, an LLP company promoted by Khalil Ahmed and his daughter Sumaiya Khalil.

“The deal would enable Food Krafters establish a foothold in the food retail industry. Hyderabad House fits well in our scheme of things and we intend to grow and expand using this brand name. Our objective is to do business while celebrating our traditional Indian culture, and we want everyone to get a taste of it. With every dish we serve, we strive to bring our heritage to life.” says Ahmed.

Food Krafters will invest Rs.35 crore over the next 2 years to fund the expansion plans across the country. The plan is to open a flagship store in Hyderabad and set up 50 outlets across India through company owned and franchisee model. The brand will undergo a complete makeover and will get “an all new design with a view of providing traditional culinary experience to the patrons in a semi QSR format.” According to sources Hyderabad House’s catering services will also be strengthened.

With many biryani chains raising huge funding in the recent past, the QSR segment looks like a hot space to watch out for. Bengaluru based Ammi’s biryani and Hyderabad’s Paradise biryani were funded by Saif Partners and Samara Capital respectively. Last week, Hyderabad based Hello Curry acquired Paratha Post.
