The 14th Edition of the India Game Developers Conference (IGDC) is here. Post covid, this year, the event will witness an in-person attendance and is all set to begin from November 3rd to 5th, 2022. The IDGC event will be at HICC, Hyderabad from 9 am to 6 pm.

In India, the gaming industry is one of the fastest-growing and most dynamic segments of the media and entertainment sector. Suggestive industry reports place this segment to grow at 30 % CAGR and be likely worth 7 Bn USD by 2026. Currently, the Indian gaming industry generates USD 1.5 Bn in revenue and is set to grow exponentially.

Being South Asia’s biggest and most important developer conference, it aims to bring gamers to developers, and developers to investors. Aiming to develop the Indian Gaming Ecosystem, the event will consist of an engaging 3-day conference.

IGDC Event Agenda

Days 1 and 2 of the Conference will focus largely on the developer community. With speakers and participants from the industry, academia, government, and other relevant institutions, the IGDC will have all the stakeholders under one roof. Topics such as technology, innovations, future trends, financial aspects, growth, talent, and training, among others will be covered. The speakers will be a mix of Art Directors, Project Heads, Studio Heads, and CXOs representing top Indian & International gaming and investment companies. In particular, Activision Blizzard King, Aream, EA, Glance, Gametion, Gameberry labs, Good Dog Studios, Jet Synthesis, Junglee Games, Lego, Meta, Moon Active, Niantic, Ncore Games, Paradox Studios, Playtika, Play Rovio, Roblox Scopely, Simple Games,  Super Gaming, Stillfront, Ubisoft,  Unity among others.

Day 3 of IGDC will focus on the ‘future of the gaming industry. This initiative is termed ‘IGDC Futures’. This new initiative will particularly focus on students, opportunities for them, and initiatives to upskill. Moreover, this initiative will center around critical themes such as climate change, sustainable development, and gaming.

Additionally, the conference will also have workshops. These will focus on the importance of storytelling; game design, and system design; using data to grow games; and preparing art decks. Furthermore, it will also emphasize the role of the gaming industry in positively impacting society and combating climate change.

Another key point of IGDC’s commitment to going green is that its merchandise will be made from recycled or natural materials. Additionally, IGDC will contribute to the SankalpTaru foundation by planting a tree for every speaker at the conference. Furthermore, the expo booths will only be using eco-friendly materials for their collaterals.

IGDC Initiatives and Awards

IP Connect, IGDC’s flagship event will be conducted in a new manner. The studios that are shortlisted will be mentored by a council. This council will chiefly consist of representatives from India’s leading game investment companies. During the event, the developers and participants will be able to have one-on-one meetings with the investors and publishing houses.

Apart from these insightful sessions, the IGDC shall award winners across five categories. These shall include Studio game of the year; Indie Game of the year; Hypercasual game of the year; Upcoming game of the year; and Student game of the year. Additionally, there will be an IGDC popular choice award where the audience can vote for the most popular game from the shortlisted entries.
