HCHW – Hyderabad Council for Human Welfare

Hyderabad Based NGO HCHW Logo Hyderabad is an abode for all groups of people in the world. It is the place where everyone – be it rich or the down trodden, look forward call this city their home. With development and other positives within the city, we also encounter kids wandering on railway tracks, rag picking, begging, and suffering from diseases. Our usual sympathy or money doesn’t really act as a permanent solution for these kids.

HCHW (Hyderabad Council of Human Welfare), a Hyderabad based NGO has come forward with an initiative to help them. The organisation, located at Mehdipatnam, is focused on the rescue, rehabilitation and mainstreaming of children.

HCHW was established in 1990 by Mohammad Rafiuddin, a young and enthusiastic professional social worker. The organisation started by focusing their efforts on neglected children in the twin cities, and it has now evolved into a vibrant organisation addressing the issues throughout the state of A.P.

HCHW focuses on street and refugee children, child labourers, children affected with HIV/AIDS, underage prisoners, beggars, rag pickers, construction labourers, orphans/destitutes, pavement dwellers, petty vendor, coolies etc. The HCHW outreach team rescues these kids and shelters them initially in a Transit Home which is situated at Koti, Hyderabad. The staff ensure that they build a rapport by knowing history and background. Subsequently, they also track the family, provide counseling and reconciling between child and family.

HCHW-pic1HCHW has come up with many projects on HIV/AIDS programs with a goal ‘halt and reverse’. where they target both children and sex workers. The cause has been pursued with the support of APSACS and UNICEF. The program includes reaching out to vulnerable and young people with information on STI/HIV prevention and risks, youth friendly counseling services and they promote safe sex measures.

HCHW stands high in conducting events where the children of HCHW are encouraged to participate in all the events in Hyderabad.

The most mentionable was the performance by HCHW students at an event ‘Joy of giving week 2013’ organised at Hitex grounds, Hyderabad. The students of HCHW had composed a hilarious and humorous role play. The humorous and amusing play was the star of the evening.
HCHW has many success stories of their inmates.
