Vapra – Nurturing Earth, Saving the Future
The lack of waste disposal management practices is widespread across the world and with sustainability at the heart of every Nation’s policies, efforts aimed towards a new approach towards waste disposal are necessary. Vapra, a student-led startup based in Hyderabad is making big moves towards creating an innovative solution to waste disposal personally or locally.
Vapra is the brainchild of Pavani, who graduated with a B.Tech and had the idea of making compost available locally; to motivate people to alleviate the overfilling of landfills and thereby promote sustainable practices. Founded in 2020, Vapra offers a holistic system that transforms waste into nutrient-rich compost, fostering a more eco-conscious and resource-efficient future.
At home, discarding organic waste separately using compact composting units reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills. Moreover, this significantly reduces methane emissions and environmental pollution. Their product offerings include compost kits, green mix compost power, community compost, and plant-fit compost for farmers. These units are designed to fit the diverse waste disposal needs of homes, communities, businesses, and industries.
Moreover, the startup has plans to buy back the compost from users to motivate them to continue the entire composting process. Additionally, they also envision establishing two compost plants in addition to the current ones at Uppal. Seeking an investment of Rs. 25L for 10% equity from the angels, Vapra presents that they have sold over 1500 units since inception. Receiving an offer from Ms. Sindhura and Sudhakar, Vapra signs a deal worth Rs. 25L for 20% equity.
Converting social ideas into a social enterprise, this student-led startup is a forward-thinking approach to waste management; building a sustainable and resilient future for future generations.
