3 years ago Rituka MCarbon Footprint has been a term that has been around a lot more lately. As we realize the effects of our actions on the environment, conscientious steps need to be taken to minimize the damages. The pandemic pushed everything in the digital sphere, making online deliveries grow exponentially. Although a boon for the industry, increased reliance on the conventional last-mile delivery methods has a hidden, yet the substantial impact on the environment. Reducing the carbon footprint has become a primary concern for the companies, and adopting a few techniques such as optimizing delivery routes, going hyperlocal, and shifting to electric vehicles by delivery partners would make a considerable contribution towards this cause.
Zypp Electric, formerly known as Mobycy, was founded in 2017 with an aim to promote the reduction of carbon emissions, and encourage a shift towards electric vehicles. Zypp, the brainchild of Akash Gupta, Shivraj Singh, and Rashi Agarwal, primarily focuses on last-mile connectivity, both as a transportation solution and as a last-mile delivery solution for e-commerce platforms. Offering three forms of electric scooters, one for grocery deliveries with racks, another for bike-taxi segment with swappable batteries, and lastly a high-speed scooter.
Helping brands like Zomato, Swiggy, BigBasket & Grofers go electric, Zypp has been able to establish an EV market share in the North. Headquartered in Gurgaon, the startup is aiming to solve the lack of charging infrastructure in the country through their battery swapping stations. With 30 such touchpoints stationed across Delhi-NCR, Zypp Electric intends to make the swapping stations solar, thereby furthering their mission to reduce the carbon footprint on Earth. Being aware of the risks posed by Lithium-ion batteries on the environment, the startup has partnered with third-party recycling companies who utilize the used battery cell to power telecom towers and streetlights.
Having raised a total of $2.5 Million across 3 rounds, the startup has tapped into the southern market by launching its services in Hyderabad. On June 6th, 2021, the last-mile delivery EV startup has begun operations in Hyderabad with 100 EV bikers and intends to install 20 swapping stations across the State for ease of changing batteries. Zypp has partnered with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) such as Hero Electric & Lohia Auto to procure the vehicles on a monthly-rental basis for about 3 years, after which it would own the vehicles. Apart from this, the company has partnered with Etrio– a Hyderabad-based EV manufacturing company, and e-retail, food tech and grocery giants like SPAR Hypermarkets, Grofers and Bigbasket, leading them to make the shift to adopting electric vehicles.
