Bhanzu – Eradicating math phobia one problem at a time.

  • Hyper-math-focused edtech platform, Bhanzu has its headquarters in Hyderabad and aims to build a learning ecosystem.
  • With Lightspeed Venture Partners on their side, Bhanzu’s is set to make maths a possibility to every student across the globe.

Neelakantha Bhanu Prakash, popularly known as the fastest Human-Computer in the World began his entrepreneurial journey with Bhanzu in 2020. Aiming to encourage careers in math and STEM fields, Bhanzu enables students to realize their full potential and introduces them to science, coding, and AI, through the lens of math.

Bhanzu provides experiential maths learning courses online for children from 5 – 16 years. Three students out of four, across the globe, fear math due to its numerous formulae; or the humongous amount of calculations.
Developing a math curriculum using a personalized AI-aided methodology, Bhanu started a curriculum on the platform based on an experiential teaching method.

Amidst Covid-19, Bhanu and his startup became the official maths partner of the government of Telangana in 2020. He began teaching maths to students via pre-recorded math videos that stream on the Telangana government’s TV channel (T-SAT).

Bhanzu’s Model

Aiming to build cognitive skills in children, Bhanzu’s curriculum is a sequence of concept modules. Through its online live classes, a teacher, personally trained by Bhanu, engages with the students and teaches them the subject through fun story narratives and activities. The modules are conceptualized to allow students to achieve tangible milestones and learn relevant and dynamic concepts in the STEM fields.

Targeting students in the age group of 5 – 16, Bhanzu’s course ranges between Rs 14,999 and Rs 64,999. Currently, this Hyderabad-based startup caters to over 30,000 students and parents.

Funding and The Way Ahead

Previously, in February 2022, Bhanzu raised a seed round of $2 million led by Lightspeed Venture Partners. Furthermore, it had active participation by prominent angel investors such as Nitin Gupta, CEO of Uni; Maninder Gulati, Global CSO at Oyo; Ashish Gupta, ex-Helion MD; Gaurav Munjal, CEO of Unacademy; Kunal Shah, CEO of CRED and Biswa Kalyan Rath, the noted stand-up comedian.

Recently, Bhanzu has been in talks to raise their Series A funding round. This round will be led by EightRoads Ventures with participation from B Capital and Lightspeed Ventures.

“EightRoads Ventures is likely to lead a $15 million worth Series A round in Bhanzu while B Capital and existing investor Lightspeed will participate. The company will be valued in the range of $70-75 million” said one of the sources requesting anonymity.

With Lightspeed, Eightroads, and B Capital having backed Byju or allied companies, backing Bhanzu is great news. Being a pre-revenue stage company according to their company’s regulatory filings, Bhanzu made Rs 5.5 lakh in operating revenue with a profit of Rs 1.1 lakh during the fiscal year ending March 2021
