“No one is useless in this world, who lightens the burden of another” – Charles Dickens

India holds the world’s largest number of blind people. Out of 39 million blind people across the globe, approximately 15 million are from India. But did you know 80% of blindness can be preventable and curable? Devnar foundation is one of those NGO’s that understood this mismatch and is constantly striving to prevent this through timely intervention. Their Mission is to provide vision and raise awareness  about blindness and help the visually impaired.

Half of the people become blind either because they can’t afford the high costs of treatment, or people require reading glasses but do not have access to them. That is why, Devnar foundation has taken all the efforts to come up with this event called the “World Sight Day Walk 2015” – an international day dedicated to raising awareness about avoidable blindness and vision impairment. This is the first event in itself where all participants will be given an eye band to tie around the eyes and will walk blindfolded.  They will be guided by the visually impaired students and guides from Devnar school.

Devnar Foundation for the blind is the largest and the best Institute for the visually challenged in India. In this school, education, boarding and lodging are free for all those visually challenged children. This is the first English medium school for the blind in our country. For the adult visually challenged people, this school give vocational training and employment opportunities. Presently, they manufacture quality Eco-friendly products like paper cups, paper bags, files and candles.
