Amazon to set up its campus in Hyderabad
9 years ago Shalini BAfter Google it is Amazon that has set its eyes on Hyderabad . Amazon will set up in Hyderabad its biggest campus outside the US.
Currently, Amazon’s fulfilment centre in the outskirts of the city spared across 280,000 sft is the biggest in the country. In India, they have 11 fulfilment centres spread across nine states and covering a total of 1 million sq. ft in space and a storage capacity of over 2.5 million cubic feet.
The state government had allotted 10 acres of land to Amazon in 2005 but the construction did not happen due to some legal hassles. The state had stepped in to clear these hassles and the construction is expect to start soon. A clearance from the ministry of environment and forests has also been obtained.
With the government very keen on providing single clearance windows and investment friendly policies, many giants are soon expected to go ahead with their expansion plans in Hyderabad.
In June 2014, Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon had committed to investing $2 billion in India after Flipkart raised $1 billion. Amazon entered India as a marketplace in 2013. They currently employ over 4000 people and plan to add 5000 jobs by 2018 at the proposed campus.
