Idea Express: An aftermarket for ideas
8 years ago Srinivas AkiIdea Express by StartupHyderabad is a bi-weekly column outlining some outlandish idea. Aspiring entrepreneurs are encouraged to slice and dice the ideas and run with them.
Strong parallels can be drawn between the products and services offered by startups in silicon valley and elsewhere. Entrepreneurs dream to be the AirBnb of something, Uber for X or an alternative to some Y.
We are building products and startups, as a version of some already existing product, packaging it in a different design, and selling it to the masses.
Every time an entrepreneur wants to build something, they start from scratch, even though the idea they are working on is some version of a pre-existing or even dead product elsewhere. A lot of energy is spent on building these websites and apps.
How about an aftermarket to buy or license an already built application?
For a starter
- A marketplace for applications
- Facilitate transfer
- Facilitate licensing and compliance
If you are ambitious
- Verify pre-existing products and then facilitate a transfer
An entrepreneur aspiring to build a classifieds for something, marketplace for something else can now focus on building traction and creating a viable business.
If the whole purpose of a startup is to validate a non-existent idea, non-existent market and the purpose of the entrepreneurship is to build something out of nothing, an aftermarket would only accelerate the process.
