Menstrupedia- A comic guide for teenagers.

Menstrupedia Comic was founded in 2012 by Aditi Gupta and her now husband, Tuhin Paul to educate and spread awareness about menstruation, especially among teenagers. Aditi is a B.Tech graduate who was featured in 2014’s Forbes India list of 30 under 30 for her contribution towards teaching people about menstruation. She was also featured in TIME Magazine in 2016 while Tuhin manages the operations, design, and business development of the business. The book is basically an easy-to-read guide to explain menstruation and the issues surrounding it.

Menstrupedia comics convey the entire concept of menstruation in a child-friendly manner and help in building the self-esteem and confidence of adolescent girls.

This is an educational app, website, and comic book, this aims at sensitizing and educating teenagers on periods and puberty. Being at the receiving end of this period-related stigma while growing up, Aditi Gupta was instilled with a sense of shame. With a deep understanding of the discomfort people face when conversing about periods, Aditi Gupta along with Tuhin Paul quit their jobs to start Menstrupedia comics – India’s first comic book on periods, which aims to transform the narrative about menstruation.

With interesting stories and characters, the comic is a friendly guide to periods, which helps women in India and across eight other countries to stay healthy during their periods. Available in 11,000 schools in India, the product has created a great impact by educating many girls about periods and making them feel empowered. In order to create a global impact on a topic that is considered taboo, Aditi and Tuhin want to build their brand further by creating an app as well.

Through their website, they have made slots for Comic Guide on Periods for Girls, Gulu Comic – Comic Guide on Puberty for Boy, Masterclass for Educators, and Period Workshop for Parents and Daughters. To make these comic books reach millions of people not just across India, but also across the world, In 2020, their revenue was about ₹1.15 crores with 40% of that coming from a sponsored partnership with ‘Stayfree’. Menstrupedia comic is currently available in 20 languages.

Aditi and Tuhin had asked for Rs 50 lakhs for a 10% equity stake. They have planned an app for the same in order to make these comic guides accessible to all. In response to their offer, Namita Thapar, CEO of Emcure Pharmaceuticals eventually agreed to the amount with a 20% stake. let’s wish the team Menstrupedia the best if luck for their great initiative!
