Travel Easy with RideShare.Co
10 years ago Arpita SomaCommuting to the airport on the shuttle buses can be a pain in the neck. If you’re like us then you probably can relate to the experience of showing up at the bus-stand only to learn that the bus that you were hoping to take has already left. Sucks!
This isn’t stuff that dreams are made of, but it happens to people more often than you can imagine. While the Airport bus shuttles are great, they’re practically useless unless you’re willing to expend an inordinate amount of time and energy in getting them to work for you. If waking up at 3 AM in the morning to take an Airport bus for the 6 AM flight makes sense to you, then you’re better off not reading the remainder of this post.
We thought not.
Unfortunately, poorly planned airport shuttles leave most of us with the option of hailing a taxi, or getting driven to the airport in our own cars (did somebody say bikes? Really?) We don’t know about you, but we find the thought of missing a flight because of a missed bus rather disturbing. Costly as they may seem, using a taxi is probably the most reliable, and predictable way of reaching the airport comfortably. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could share a taxi to the airport?
If you thought “yes” then you’re in luck – the startup that we’re talking about, RideShare will help you put an end to your airport commute woes by letting you use shared taxis to/from the airport. RideShare, a Hyderabad based startup that was born at the Stanford University Technology Ventures program, and accelerated by IIM Ahmedabad has a taxi sharing platform that they’re using to help airport commuters share a taxi with other people going on similar routes.
Just tell them about your travel plan, and the system matches you with other airport goers based on several criteria such as time of travel, route proximity, and costs, among other things. If a match is found, you get notified and connected with the other commuters. If there’s no match, you still have the option of booking a cab, and sharing it on their platform so that other passengers can share the ride with you. With RideShare, you get the benefits of sharing a taxi while comfortably travelling to the airport with interesting people that are just like you.
