If you think you are solving social and environmental problems innovatively leveraging the power of invention, then you must definitely look out for this award event. UN-Habitat and the International Ecological Safety Collaboration Organization (IESCO) supported by the China Development Orient Urban Development and Investment Company Limited (“CDB-ORIENT”), a major private sector organization in China have decided to jointly launch a biennial Youth Innovation Awards Programme this year. The main aim of this award is to acknowledge and encourage young talent who have taken up initiatives that create positive impact socially, economically and environmentally and that this recognition should act as a catalyst towards the promotion of sustainable cities and towns and encourage talent needed for future urban development measured by creation of youth employment, poverty alleviation and ensuring ecological safety.

The awards are spread across 5 different categories which are –
Youth Leadership,
Green inventions and Innovations,
Urban Ecological Safety,
Youth Entrepreneurship, and
Social and cultural innovations

“Young Entrepreneur of the Biennium will also be recognized and awarded. Winners will not only receive a cash Prize and a certificate from UN-Habitat and IESCO, they will also get a trophy and will benefit from extensive media coverage. The total amount of the prize pool is USD 200,000 and the individual cash grant will be USD 20,000 to be given to two winners in each category.” said Jiang Mingjun of IESCO.

It is also known that the organizers will not only recognize entrepreneurs who took the initiative of taking the tough road, but will also go ahead to acknowledge outstanding mentors and innovators who guided people to take their ideas to a higher level. The motto behind organizing this event at such a large scale is to comprehend mechanism which touches all walks of life and to bring serious and meaningful changes to society.

Launch of innovation awards – 21st April 2015
Deadline for submission of the reports – 31st July 2015
Shortlisting by secretariat – June to August 15 2015
Steering Committee selects the Winners – September 2015
Youth innovation award winner announcement – September 2015
Award ceremony – October 2015
