LENSKART ACQUIHIRES HYDERABAD-BASED DELIVERY STARTUP- DAILYJOY, TO OPEN TECH CENTRE IN HYDERABAD

Raising $231 million from Softbank Vision Fund II and Lightbulb Ltd. as a part of a Series G funding round, Lenskart entered the Unicorn club in 2020. Establishing their presence across 66 cities in India, with over 500 stores, the omni-channel eyewear brand has inaugurated a new technology centre in India by acqui-hiring Hyderabad- based startup- DailyJoy, a B2C grocery and essentials delivery startup with operations across Tier I & II cities including Hyderabad and Lucknow. The team at DailyJoy has been together for more than 5 years with a strong foothold in product, design and technology. Although DailyJoy operates in the daily needs space, Lenskart is primarily aimed towards expanding the team and utilising their tech expertise. 

 

To enhance Lenskart’s technological and innovative capabilities, they intend to hire over 100 people in the Hyderabad team across product, design and development, quality engineering, front-end developers, java developers, Android and iOS developers, and data science engineers. Aiming to leverage technologies like augmented reality (AR), Machine Learning (ML), and computer vision to improvise the offline buying experience, Lenskart intends to tap into new geographies including US and Middle East, apart from having its presence in Singapore. By setting up a hub in Hyderabad, Ramneek Khurana, co-founder, Lenskart said, “We want to make Hyderabad a base for quality and consistent engineering to support the high-growth phase of the company. The team expects to station mature technology leaders & young local talent with 10x thinking that can spearhead this growth with focus, energy, and innovation”. Establishing a third facility of Lenskart in Hyderabad through the acquisition of DailyJoy, Satish Sharma, ex- CEO of DailyJoy, commenting on the acquisition said, “As we join hands, it will be our endeavour to synchronise our synergies with Lenskart and add value to their remarkable journey going forward in the ever-evolving eye-wear industry.”
