Surge impact Foundation (SIF) is an impact business accelerator based out of Hyderabad. It was started in September 2016 by Raj Janagam and Ravi Mantha with the support of Mytrah Energy. Prior to this Raj, was the founder and CEO of Unlimited Hyderabad, an early stage social enterprise that had incubated 30+ social businesses. Ravi Mantha is a public policy catalyst, board member, investor and author.

SIF has a diverse 12-member team, out of which 6 members have had experience in starting their own organizations. The remaining members come from various organizations such as Deloitte, KPMG, AirBnB, ActionAid and TCS. They bring in diverse expertise in areas like financial services, investment management & advisory, business research & development, leadership & business coaching, government consulting, entrepreneurship, and non-profit operations & research. Overall, the team has a lifetime experience of incubating and accelerating 50+ startups.

Though SIF runs its accelerator program in Hyderabad, more than 50% of the entrepreneurs from the current cohort are from other areas like Bangalore, Kerala, Pune & Delhi. Many of the entrepreneurs currently in the cohort also come from corporate backgrounds, without any prior experience in the social enterprise and social impact space. SIF is currently accepting applications for the 3rd cohort of the accelerator program.

Surge-Mytrah Accelerator Program

This program is a Mytrah initiative and is a six-month, non-residential program for social enterprises that operate in India and that are working on any of the United Nation”s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The highlights of the program include:

  1. A boot-camp that helps entrepreneurs learn and use tools and methodologies for business planning.
  2. Personal leadership development and team development.
  3. Scaling for impact.
  4. Access to experienced expert mentoring and investors.
  5. Outstanding startups have an opportunity to share a seed funding of up to 10 Lakhs INR.

Eligibility:

Social enterprises best suited for this program will have:

  • Run their start-up for atleast 6 months, but not longer than 5 years.
  • Have at least one founder who is working full-time on the startup.
  • Gross revenue of Rs. 25,000 or above.

In addition to the above, SIF runs “Melaa”, a platform for the social enterprises supporting local artisans in marketing and selling their eco-friendly, handcrafted products. SIF also leads the “Telangana Social Impact Group” (T-SIG), which  is the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Project Management Unit of the Telangana State Government. Leveraging its diverse expertise and hands-on approach, SIF has been able to permeate the corporate sector by consulting on various corporate innovation programs on the invitation of big players in the industry.
