Describe - Share the story behind your memories
8 years ago Shalini BToday, with the world growing closer through social media, sites like Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat provide a platform for individuals to share their photos and latest updates with family and friends and stay connected. Every picture clicked has a great story to tell. Click a picture, think of a nice caption to go with it, upload and share.  But what if we told you that there is an app that surpasses all these existing photo sharing apps by not only allowing  you to put up a photo, but also record a 15 seconds selfie video to describe the story behind that  picture?
Move over Instagram! Here comes our Hyderabadi app  “Describe† that allows you to describe every photo you share with a 15 seconds selfie video conveying the story behind that memory captured.  Cool, isn’t it?
We think the app has amazing potential to change the way memories are shared. Not only can this app be used by people to upload and share photos & related videos, but it can take engagement to a whole new level. A food/travel blogger can use this app to describe their experience, a company can use it to market its product and imagine what it can do to journalists sharing news and fashion designers who retail through social media these days. It can take celebrity engagement reach a whole new high by letting them connect with their followers in a very uniquely intimate way!
The team of Startup Hyderabad got a chance to interact with Irfan, one of the co-founder of this app. We asked him the story behind this unique app and here is what he had to say –
“We were prototyping a concept we had for the next generation of social networking, back in 2011-12. It was called RadikHub. The concept of RadikHub was selected as one of the 16 finalists at Le’Web Paris ‘11. However we did not present at the finals there as we weren’t exactly sure about disclosing the product threadbare at such a nascent stage. Now, of the many cool things we were planning for RadikHub, one particular concept that we were more pumped up about exploring further was that of the next generation content formats. Over time, we developed an entire scheme of how such hybrids can operate and what they can be used to do. We internally called this amalgamation of different formats, the Hybrid Content Format (HCF). “
He adds, “Photos are the most popular medium on the internet. But photo-sharing networks for the most part, haven’t done much to turn them into meaningful content. What does it mean? The centrepiece of content shared on any photo sharing network is the photo. As it should be. But any form of explanation or complementary information about the context of this photo, is a discrete and relegated textual section which is not highlighted enough. This way of presenting content on photo sharing networks has disjointed photos from the right kind of context; the context that can add great value and meaning to the photos. That’s a problem that we could solve very uniquely. So we set about developing one of the forms of Hybrid Content Format, as Describe, to make photo sharing meaningful. As of now, we have a patent pending for HCF and Describe is available for download on the AppStore.â€ÂÂ
Until recently, Describe had been in its testing phase. Towards the end of October, they had their latest update and the product is ready for public use  now. Since then, Describe has been adding users from across the world.
Apart from Irfan, Waseem, Saritha Jhawar and Aashish  Raj are the other co-founders of Describe.
How does the app work?
Posts on Describe are called Describes and the people posting it are called descibers. To create a Describe is just a simple 3 steps process: Capture, record and share.
Capture or import a photo, then record up to 15 seconds of video description using the front camera and share it with other describers. Each Describe can have up to 5 photos, with a 15 second video for each photo. However, specifically, it can be a very great tool for bloggers, journalists, photographers, celebrities, influencers, brands, travellers etc.
Now that was the uploading part. How about a moving profile picture as well?
Describe allows you to have a 3 second silent video of yourself on your profile instead of a plain old profile picture. You can have a still picture as well. You can set one up during the signup process. If you would like to add a new Moving Picture or a picture, you can easily update it from the settings page of your account.
You have an option to select the audience for anything you Describe. The default setting though is public, which means whatever you share in a public setting will be visible to all. You do have an option of sharing privately.
“For the millions of expressions that constitute life, for the billions of faces that make the world, and for the countless stories that keep them going, Describe! Resonate the spirit of being alive. Be Seen.â€ÂÂ
Use describe to not only show your memories, but also share the story behind it. It will be available for Androids users soon, but all the iPhone users, go ahead and make this app a part of your life.
