Where did Facebook go wrong!??

Facebook is all over the news. Never before it has faced the public criticism to this extent giving more power to the # Delete facebook campaign started by Brain Acton, Cofounder of WhatsApp, which was in turn acquired by Facebook for 16 Billion Dollars.deletefacebook

Data security and user privacy is the point of discussion across the firms and channels since the scandal popped out. Resources state that Facebook is aware of this scandal long time before but never admitted in public to safeguard their own business model. Even after the scandal has broken out Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl took a long pause to comment or make a statement about the same to the public. This has broken the trust of millions who believed in Facebook and shared their personal data on the platform.

After Facebook admitting that a political firm has improperly received profile data access from millions of users and used it to persuade voters by targeting psychological profiles of the users and delivering personality based advertising campaigns for the US Elections.

Even though Cambridge Analytica denies using the data of Facebook for the campaign but the former staffer of the firm confirmed the claim and even said that “Cambridge Analytica is the company that took the fake news to the next level by powering it with algorithms”

According to the reliable sources of information, it all started in 2013 when a professor Alexander Cogan of Cambridge University deployed an app on Facebook with special permissions, that collected data using a personality quiz which was installed by around 300,000 Facebook users. This Quiz has collected the user profile data along with the quiz responses. Here is the key, the Facebook Policy at that time has also allowed the app to collect the information about the friends of the user as well. This became the real boost to gather millions of users information within no time.

Kogan reportedly said to the Facebook, that the app is for academic research but discovering the potential of the data he has got, he sold it to Cambridge Analytica, which in turn used it to generate valuable personality profiles and built algorithms out of user responses. These trained algorithms know what the user wants based on his profile and send them personalized messages and persuade them to take actions.

Its hard time on Facebook and in fact, it is much harder for Mark addressing the lawsuits and trust issues on International media channels. The full pages ads are still trying to ensure that they are committed to user safety but how acceptable there are ??

Meanwhile, How many of you support #Deletefacebook!!
