Re-inventing HR technology

After a decade of enterprise solutions for HR systems, we are now in the phase where this $14 billion industry is re-inventing itself. The ERP HR systems merely acted as tools which automated the HR processes. The focus then was only time, effort and cost savings and it was mostly core HR and payroll software.

Today’s businesses have a totally different set of problems: employee engagement, driving a high-performance work culture and designing a more agile, employee-centric organization structure. There are a number of emerging HR applications today. There is a need for organizations to learn how to build and manage teams, facilitate wellness and fitness at work and provide continuous feedback.

Cloud computing has become well established. Initially, organizations were hesitant to put their HR data into a vendor-based platform. But later they came to realize that Cloud is the future. So, there is a rapid consolidation going on with organizations replacing their core or part of the existing HRMS systems with integrated cloud-based solutions.

Also, today we don’t use the web like we used to. We have started relying more on mobile apps. These apps have advantages of location, sound and many other sensors which takes the employee experience to a whole new different level. In India, an app that can clock an employee once he boards his office bus, another app which on boards the employee during his first 6 months by providing video learning, people to meet, activities to complete etc. are a big step. The HR systems of today are more along the lines of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with instant connect, feeds, videos which make the experience a lot more interesting.

The impact of the shift to mobile

They are simple to use. With minimal design, it will not require much training.

They are built on feeds and not on tabbed panels like the web-based HR systems. This makes them very engaging and interesting.

They use videos extensively. Video-based learning has become the rage today and this is an important feature built in.

Visual cues are used wherever possible to make it easy and interesting.

Analytics is ingrained. They use the data for auto-suggestions on what can be done next, provide recommendations, compares your data with peers, thus making communication continuous and simple.

Feedback is embedded. The app lets you provide feedback, give comments, share, reply. This can be used for coaching or performance management

In India, the transition from licensed HR systems to cloud systems is rapidly accelerating today. Soon we will again see a shift from cloud-based systems to ‘all mobile’ HR apps. Tomorrow the best HR Technology software in India (Click Here) and payroll management software India will have to leverage integrated social tools, video interview technology, analytics to re-invent recruitment platforms with the focus on technology like feeds, feedback, video, analytics, and gaming.
