Its time to bell the CAT- with Cracku!5 years ago Ruchika Agarwal
What could be better than preparing for an MBA entrance exam with the best teachers right by your side?
Cracku was started in July 2014 by a group of IIT-IIM alumni. It is an online test preparation platform, currently focusing on helping students prepare for MBA entrance examinations. Having gone through the grind of preparing for examinations, they felt potential for improvement in test preparation while making it more social and mobile friendly.
HOW IT STARTED?
Two of their co-founders, Maruti Konduri and Lingo (Srikanth Lingamneni) were batch mates in IIT Bombay Computer Science batch of 2008. They started an online sports magazine while in college and were always enthusiastic about entrepreneurship.
Sayali Kale and Maruti studied together in IIM Ahmedabad and later worked for investment banks in Hong Kong. Both, being geeks at heart, were more interested in finding better ways of learning than in building financial products. The idea of Cracku started forming in their heads around January 2014 and they returned to India in March to start their business. Lingo, who was pursuing his PGDM from IIM Calcutta, jumped on board and the team for Cracku was in place.
WHERE THEY ARE
They currently offer two products,
- A practice platform with around 2000 excellent questions categorised by topic and difficulty level. The comprehensive question bank stores questions that matter with detailed explanation for each question with a doubt-solving facility.
- A national Mock CAT series, with detailed analysis at a very reasonable price
They will soon be launching an android app in the next two weeks. The product is designed entirely keeping in mind a student preparing on his mobile and being on-the go! With quick tests and assessing where you stand among your peers with Cracku’s leaderboard.
Receiving a brilliant response from students in the first month of launch itself, their Facebook page has over 3000 likes and the number of registered users on their site is over 2000. The response after conducting a couple of free Mock CATs to help students and was delightful. Around 450 students gave the first Mock while around 700 students appeared for the second Mock.
They intend to upgrade their mobile product and make it a one stop shop for anyone who is preparing for CAT. They believe that the time for individual preparation is long gone and test preparation should now be more social.
After experiencing a good start and securing a decent number of paying customers, their target is to be the market leaders in this space within the next two years.
