Pictures, videos, blogs, stories and live updates, they all make sure a part of the travel stays with us. To help preserve and of course, share, ‘this’ part of you with family and friends, three youngsters from NIT Sikkim developed an app called TravelShelf.
TravelShelf is a traveller’s library where travellers can store their travel experiences in the form of an itinerary and share it with just a link. Travelling is all about exploring different places, different cultures, food , people and more and the experience is more beautiful when shared. One can create trip teasers and map stories of different destinations, make a log of places to see, eat, stay and share all the details in an easy and comfortably viewable manner.
According to one of the founders Romil, “ TravelShelf is a traveller’s library. We help travellers store their experiences to reminisce them again. In a digital age with content being produced at an exponential rate, we feel the comprehension of that content is missing. That is why we created TravelShelf. Travelers can store privately all their experiences for them, or they can publish it on the platform, to show it to other travellers and share it with their friends and family with just a link.”
This app is a perfect tool for travel enthusiasts as it allows them to view trips created by fellow travelers and get all the information about the trip in one single page. Travelers and travel influencers sign up via Instagram and also have the option to upload pictures directly from their account. The app also allows travellers to link their travel blogs and channels.
“While we were working Our research made us realize that while there is a lot of information available, the problem is it is not comprehensive. And that is where we started working on a platform where people can get a comprehensive idea about a place and what kind of itinerary they can have based on their travel style”, chips in Rajat, who takes care of technology at TravelShelf.
Launched in December 2017, the app has over 200+ verified travel influencers using it. While there are more than 200 public trips created, more than 8000+ private tours have been automatically generated for the users using their Instagram pictures.
“While travellers can use TravelShelf as a digital journal, brands can reach out to travel influencers to promote their products or services. While we create a profile of the travellers based on their interest and travel style, travel Influencers can showcase their travel style so that brands can see and find a synergy between the influencer of their choice and then promote their product or service. They can either directly reach out to the influencer or can get their campaign executed through us.” says Aditya, their business and sales head.
A lot of their influencers travel continuously and need a source of income. The team has added a feature called ‘TravelShelf Exclusives’ where the travel influencers can showcase their photography talent and also sell their pictures. 10% of profits from the sales of the pictures go to C.R.Y (Child Rights and You).
The team aims to become the single source of travel inspiration and planning. The app is currently available for Android users and will be available for IOS users by July 2018.
